Hi, I’m Heather Wolgamott.
I’ve worked from home in the direct sales industry since 2000 and love the freedom and lifestyle it affords. 15 years ago, I wouldn’t have pictured myself doing what I’m doing now. Back then, you would have found me looking for a teaching job (which never came to be). Instead I ended up in the corporate world, working for a respected local company making great money and traveling on the company’s dime. Great experience but I found it hard to balance once we started our family. By the time my second son was born, I realized that I needed to make a change. I was unhappy with the lack of opportunity for advancement in my job and I felt like after putting my best into my job all day, I came home and my children were getting what little energy I had left. It wasn’t the life I wanted so I made the decision to find something better. Something that was more fulfilling and more flexible.
It didn’t take me long to realize that there weren’t a lot of jobs out there that provided what I desired. About 6 months after I left my JOB, I started my own business with a party plan business. I signed up as a consultant knowing nothing about the industry but knowing I was going to make it work! I was very naïve but full of passion and I did it – I built a very successful business. I developed a loyal customer base and a dynamic team of consultants.
However, even though my business thrived, I saw limits in working for a “party plan” company that sold a hard good that was expensive to ship. And we had a minimum order requirement before it could be shipped out. This really limited the way I could market my product. You couldn’t really take advantage of the internet, which was growing my leaps and bounds, or person-to-person sales. And I saw limits in the comp plan. It was weak in rewarding leadership promotions and the large corporate machine, which I thought was a benefit when I first joined, was many times slow to respond to issues that affected the field and my personal business.
I wasn’t really looking to make a change when I first heard that a new company called Votre Vu was planning on launching with a French skin care line but there were a few things that intrigued me about it so I started researching the company and what it planned to offer. I loved everything I heard. I had studied other skin care companies before and wasn't interested in working with them, but Votre Vu was different. They weren't taking an ultra clinical approach to skin care which gave them a very approachable feel. And yes, there are a lot of skin care companies out there but Votre Vu's product line was something different then what was already available through direct sales – this was French skin care - skin care with a different philosophy. I quickly fell in love with products.
I studied the compensation plan and was impressed with what I saw. Votre Vu has a binary compensation plan which is very aggressive and one of the most sought after plans in the direct sales industry. It’s a plan that awards leadership and leadership building.
From the packaging to the plans of embracing the internet (which a lot of direct sales companies shy away from), I saw that Votre Vu was posed for success. They offer a luxurious desirable consumable product at affordable prices. They have an experienced, creative, forward-thinking corporate team. They have a binary compensation plan. And they have a swanky, hip corporate culture that makes working fun.
Because of the rank I had reached with my home décor business, I had to make a choice. My former company had a non-compete clause and I was not allowed to work with another direct sales company. I was going to have to walk away from an income that I had worked so hard to build and a team that I adored. But it was apparent to me that I needed to make a change – just as apparent as when I walked away from my corporate job. (If you’re not happy with your life, change it!)
I made the change in order to have a career that in the long term would be a better fit for me and my family. And that’s what choosing a network marketing company is all about, finding a company that is right for you!
I love direct sales/network marketing. It's an industry that lets you build your own business at your own pace - part time or full time..it's your choice. It’s an industry full of positive, empowering people and one that encourages personal growth on a daily basis. It’s an industry that gives you the opportunity to meet and connect with people all over the country. It’s an industry that teaches you the importance of setting goals and then gives you the tools to achieve them. It’s a life changing industry.
I think everyone should experience running their own direct sales business. You don’t have to have a certain degree just a desire to try something new. You’ll learn as you go!
