      Hi LJF!

I am a Thirty-One consultant and I have just joined this networking site.  I just saw your post so I wanted to respond. :)

You can have a consultant send you a catalog via the mail if you haven't attended a party.  If you are looking for a local consultant, just let me know your city and state so I can help you find someone local.  If location doesn't matter to you, I'd be happy to send you a catalog to review.  Just send me a PM with your details and I can put one in the mail for you this week.

      Take care!

Hello Ivette and welcome to these talk boards!

My question for you is in regard to the product line and its specializing in the interests of women. I was looking at the many wonderful products and admiring the styles and I thought to myself that it might be unusual for men to represent them and to build a business. Could you tell me if you have many men selling female oriented products and if you find it has an effect on selling such items? I do not believe that there should be any kind of difference, but I was more wondering if there are any. Is it easier for woman to show their desire for products that they actually use, compared to men that would want to represent them but not be able to relate during a sales pitch?

I was curious because my job places me in close and friendly contact with many women of all types and styles and I can see an opportunity to really offer something that could benefit all of us through a product line like Thirty-One. I hope I have no asked too many questions and I look forward to hearing your response. Thank you. :)

      Much peace.

Hi Jeroqui!  Nice to meet you :)

I personally do not know of many men who are Thirty-One consultants.  I only know of 2 but I do not have personal contact with them to be able to answer your question in regards to their success.  I'm sorry!  I can try to find a male consultant for you to give you his perspective on the business if you'd like.  :)

A couple of things I will share with you though:  as consultants, we have been asking for more products and patterns that will appeal to a male audience.  I have had several male customers purchase the Picnic Tote in the St. Andrews Tartan, the matching blanket and the large utility tote for their car organization.  I think being a product of the product is important, so at least there's a few items that you can use and show.  We have one type of "party" called the "Get Organized" show where we demo the products that are used in the home and car to get organized and make clean up easy.

While a male may not be able to relate to some of the products and their benefits, one of the things that can be used is the testimonial.  I'm getting ready to publish my newsletter with a suggestion from one of my customers on how to use our thermal tote.  Rather than me saying how great it is, it's someone else's idea of how they used the product and maybe someone else will identify.  I don't have every product in the catalog (unfortunately!) but at my parties I'll say something like, "I have a customer that uses her XXL tote to go grocery shopping so she doesn't have to bring home all those plastic bags."

If you're interested in the product, maybe you can have a party.  That way you can see how the women in your circle respond to the product as well as how they respond to you introducing it to them.  My guess is if they have a great relationship with you, they will thank you for showing it to them!

I look forward to getting to know you!  Please feel free to ask me any other questions.

      All the best,
      Ivette

Its is a pleasure to meet you as well Ivette, and thank you so much for offering such insight to my questioning. It was my original idea that there may not have been very many men that represent Thirty-One, perhaps for the same reasons that lead me to wonder about it. I had no idea that may people were asking for more male-oriented products, this is wonderful news. I wonder what kinds of things they might come out with. I could imagine wallets, waist pouches, perhaps pen holders for pockets, and maybe suitcases? I think the possibilities could be endless. I can see the value of the get organized product line, especially since it is useful for both sexies.

I would perhaps focus on testimonials primarily, so long as I could show something for demonstration that can carry the emotion over. I would like to show videos perhaps of women giving advice, ideas, or simply discussing what they like about the product. I recall a conversation I had as of late, in which a women was discussing with her friend some purses that she liked, and I overheard them. I asked my friend Kendra what makes a good bag, and if it is primarily based on design, and the reply I got was actually very interesting to me even as a man, because it made clear some misconceptions that I had carried previously.

She explained to me that there were many factors that go into such a thing. The thickness of the strap for comfort and strength, and also that some types of purse would not stay upon a woman's shoulder, depending on the strap and her stature, other times it was the length and where on her body it rests. Also the more traditional concerns, such as space inside, pockets and compartments. I found myself very fascinated and having learned very much of this part of a woman's attention to a purse. I gained as you might say, a new respect.

I can not explain why, but I really felt enthusiastic about such a thing, it made me want to think about representing the products, and perhaps seeing a man so finely concerned with such intimate and overlooked problems might contribute to the quality of representation. Perhaps I am reading too deeply in, but I am always impressed when in the past, I have seen a woman show proficient knowledge about a male topic. I like your idea of a party, perhaps I will put some thought into Thirty-One and look at my network and my capabilities.

      Love and Peace.
