Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is the perfect solution to your mold problem and it’s readily available and cheap. You’ll need a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide and a spray pump. Just spray the affected areas with the hydrogen and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Afterwards scrub the wall and wipe it with a clean cloth, removing all the remaining spores off the wall. You can also make a combination of hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and baking soda and spray the wall with this mixture. Just make sure the hydrogen is in a dark colored bottle in order to preserve its properties.

Vinegar

Vinegar is also very efficient in removing black mold. Just pour some vinegar in an empty spray bottle and spray the affected walls. Leave it on for a few hours and then scrub the area with a brush. If the scent is too strong you could dilute it with some water, but it’s not recommended because it won’t be as powerful as pure vinegar, and won’t have the same effect. You can instead add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to improve the scent a bit. According to numerous studies, vinegar can eliminate 82% of mold spores, including bacteria and viruses. You can also use it as a prevention measure, spraying the walls and leaving it to dry out.

Tea tree oil solution

This is a more expensive solution but bear in mind that you’ll need just 2 teaspoons which will last for a long time. Mix the tea tree oil (2 teaspoons) with two cups of water and pour it in a spray bottle. Spray the moldy walls and leave it on. Do not wash this off the walls, the scent will gradually fade away.

Citrus seed extract and water

How to get rid of black mold with citrus seed extract? This is an effective solution as well, and the best part is that this solution is odorless. Citrus seed extracts are scentless, so if you have a sensitive nose this is the perfect formula for you. Mix 20 drops of the extract and two cups of water in a spray bottle and spray the walls. Don’t rinse this either.

Baking soda

Baking soda is another cheap but effective solution for your mold problem. Combine the baking soda with some water and pour it in a spray bottle. Spray the moldy walls and leave it on for a while. Afterwards scrub and wipe the area with a damp cloth, eliminating all the mold spores along the way. Plus, baking soda also doesn’t leave your house smelling sour afterwards, which is great.

If you don’t have a problem with mold but want to do something to prevent it from ever appearing there are a few tips and tricks you can use. Wipe all the damp areas regularly, spray vinegar, buy a cool mist humidifier and look out for any leaks around the house.
